WNY WALKS! Leader Presenting at AARP NY State Conference”

Buffalo, NY. Phil Haberstro, Executive Director of the Wellness Institute of Greater Buffalo and founder of the WNY walkability movement’s walking initiative WNY WALKS! will be speaking on walking and walkability at the AARP state-wide conference to be held September 24th and 25th at the Buffalo Hyatt Regency. Phil and staff member Lucy Connery will be co-presenting with Hamburg Moves on Tuesday, September 24th at 3:00 pm at the Buffalo Hyatt Regency. This presentation will highlight the WNY WALKS! recently developed strategic plan promoting walking and walkable communities in Greater Buffalo.

WNY WALKS! is a year-round ongoing strategic initiative that collaborates with public, private, non-profit, civic organizations and communities to facilitate regular physical activity, walking, and a safe, walkable Western New York. Current walking opportunities include: 1) guided 30 minute walk downtown on Tuesday, September 24th after the presentation held at the Buffalo Hyatt Regency, 2) the Grand Island Sunset Striders weekly walks on Tuesdays at 6:30 pm, which meet at new Greenway Trail on the West River (meet at large parking lot in between Whitehaven Rd and Staley Rd), and 3) pre-festival guided walk in the historic Hooks neighborhood at 9:00 am before Uplift Buffalo: Mindfulness Festival being held on Saturday, September 28th at the Buffalo Grand Hotel (meet in the hotel lobby).

The AARP New York Third Annual Leading on Livability Summit will bring together leaders, activists, government, elected officials, planners, educators, philanthropy, and more!  The summit is free to attend, but registration is required.
